26, June 2015: Statistic show that traditional family trips abroad are being increasingly replaced by adventure travel holidays, with activities such as mountaineering, mountain biking and canoeing proving to be some of the most popular among British families. With many of these trips taking place abroad in exotic destinations, top online travel insurance company Insuremore cautions about the importance of ensuring the safety of the whole family.

Have an Adventure, But Go Prepared

Family adventure holidays have steadily been gaining popularity over the past four years, with caravan holidays shrinking down to 11% popularity, camping 6% and adventure travel soaring to an impressive 65%. Tourism boards have been watching the growth of adventure travel holidays with interest, and it is now generally regarded as a standalone sector within the travel industry by over 80% of tourism boards.

This kind of travel sees families heading to exotic countries (popular choices include Botswana, Cuba and Austria) to participate in exhilarating and physically demanding activities. The combination of new locations and potentially dangerous activities has been an area of rising concern for reputable insurance companies such as Insuremore, who urge parents to take the proper steps to ensure the entire family is covered for every eventuality.

A representative from Insuremore said: “Figures show that too many families are travelling to exotic locations without taking proper precautions, such as taking out appropriate comprehensive travel insurance. Not only are they visiting exotic (and sometimes dangerous) locations, but they are also participating in physical activities that could incur crippling medical or evacuation bills if anything was to go wrong.”

Shockingly, travel industry statistics show that 8 in 10 travellers are unsure of how to prevent insect bites in exotic locations, and 9 in 10 are unsure of symptoms and ways to prevent tick bites and other dangerous insect-related risks. As little as 24% of families are taking comprehensive health precautions before embarking on adventure holidays in which they plan to participate in activities such as bungee jumping, rafting and paragliding.

The representative from Insuremore urged all travellers to consider a good travel insurance policy a necessity not a luxury.
