Orlando, FL — September 16, 2016 - Alzheimer’s disease is a prevalent condition that typically affects the elderly. Many sufferers live a reduced quality of life due to the condition. The good news is that there is an alternative believed to be helpful for individuals with this disease.

Alzheimer’s disease sufferers may benefit from utilizing resveratrol. This powerful potential antioxidant is thought to combat a myriad of diseases and disorders as may even help to improve overall health. It is also believed to be significantly helpful for brain health.

New scientific evidence conducted by researchers from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute reveals that resveratrol has the potential to slow down the progression of the condition. This study was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

It was also found that resveratrol could potentially reduce the likelihood of development of diseases linked with aging. The researchers further revealed that this potential antioxidant may help neutralize the harmful effects associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

In the research, it was also discovered that resveratrol has the potential to target selectively and neutralize clumps of bad peptides, which may be associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Resveratrol has also been thought to fight inflammation-causing enzymes, shrink tumors, and increase blood flow.

Dr. R. Scott Turner, the Professor of Neurology and Director of the Memory Disorders program at Georgetown University Medical Center, and his team, have created a purified form of resveratrol. This was utilized in human and animal studies that aimed in determining resveratrol’s impact on cancer, diabetes, and other age-related conditions.

In the study, there were 119 men and women, and they were divided into placebo and resveratrol groups. All of the participants suffered from moderate to mild Alzheimer’s disease. The results of cognitive tests and assessments taken by the participants were compared by the scientists.

The researchers found that the group receiving the resveratrol treatment did not experience changes in protein levels. This protein is usually found in the brains of those with Alzheimer’s disease. They also did not see any difference in the amounts of protein in the spinal fluid and blood.  It is important to note that the formation of these protein plaques typically increases with the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Resveratrol supplements are widely available for individuals who want to take advantage of its potential health benefits. There are many resveratrol supplements available in the market today, and the more notable of which contain a combination of various potentially therapeutic ingredients.

Some of the most popular resveratrol supplements contain extracts of Acai fruit, grape seed, green tea, and red wine.
