A recently-developed Android app aims to help visitors on holidays to Sicily find their way around and discover what to see, eat and visit in the region, particularly in the southeast.

The application, dubbed Listen To Sicily, makes full use of the potentialities of modern technology in order to help visitors make the most of their holidays to Sicily . Its modus operandi hinges on a five-pronged approach, which covers almost all the bases of the current telecommunications panorama.

The first of the five measures the new app is based around is its website, arguably the main stopping point for visitors to Sicily wanting to make use of this program’s capabilities. From here, travellers preparing to take off for (or already on) holidays to Sicily can download audio guides in an mp3 format, in the five major European languages, as well as find information about Sicily’s main sights, towns, attractions and monuments. The website also includes a comprehensive list of places in which to eat, stay, shop and socialise in the southern Italian island. The functionalities found in this portal are carried over into the app itself, which interested parties can obtain from this same address, free of charge.

Other than the web portal and the app itself, Listen To Sicily provides its customers with the increasingly customary QR code, which can be scanned against dedicated information points in some of the island’s main towns, such as Ragusa, Catania, Modica, Scicli and soon also Comiso. Through these codes, visitors can access additional information about the location they are in, which expands upon the facts given in the portal and associated app.

Lastly, Listen To Sicily provides its customers with a pocket map, which serves as a complement to the app and can be picked up from the tourist offices in Ragusa, Modica and Catania.

The Listen To Sicily project is seen by authorities in the newly created Eastern Sicily district as one of the main tools for the development of the area in the near future.
