Hollywood actor George Clooney has recently proposed to current girlfriend Amal Alamuddin by giving her a 7-carat diamond ring of his own design.

Clooney, 52, is reported to have employed the utmost care in choosing the gem he would eventually present the 36-year-old Brit with on April 22d. The choice ended up falling on an ethically-mined 7-carat stone, which the actor had set in a platinum band, with two tapered baguettes complementing the main stone.

The couple, who first made their engagement public by showing off the diamond ring at a private dinner party in Santa Barbara, California, are said to be planning a wedding for as early as September of this year. Sources close to both parties have come on record to endorse and give their blessing to the couple’s union, claiming Alamuddin is perhaps the best-suited partner Clooney has had so far. The Ocean’s Eleven star is also said to respect his current fiancée’s desire to stay away from the spotlight, which contrasts starkly with the ambitions of most of Clooney’s previous partners.

The pair has also recently taken their relationship to the next level by travelling to Dubai, in order for Clooney to meet some of his new partner’s relatives. The actor is said to have been well-received by the brunette’s family, with her parents said to have approved of the couple’s engagement.

Alamuddin is a practicing barrister and the daughter of a newspaper editor and a travel agency owner. Her most famous case was as the defense attorney for Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks. She is of Lebanese descent and was voted the Hottest Barrister in London in 2013, subsequently climbing to the top of Most Eligible Bachelorettes in the UK. Her engagement to Clooney gave her similar status on the corresponding list for Hollywood celebrities as well.

Before meeting Alamuddin, Clooney had dated such celebrities as Stacy Keibler.
