Orlando, FL— September 15, 2015 — Natural alternatives nowadays are becoming increasingly popular to the point that they are preferred by many over pharmaceutical drugs. Many arthritis sufferers, for instance, believe that glucosamine and chondroitin are safer and effective alternatives that are helping them improve the quality of their lives. The widespread use of natural remedies has led many researchers to explore more of the benefits associated with their use.

A combination of glucosamine and chondroitin is believed to be as effective as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug for reducing knee pain usually suffered by individuals with osteoarthritis. Both glucosamine and chondroitin are natural ingredients, which make them safer than pain relief medications.

“The combination of these natural ingredients has long been believed to be very helpful among osteoarthritis sufferers,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

There have been trials conducted by researchers, and evidence favorable to the use of both glucosamine and chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the knee has been increasing. It has been found that the natural ingredients have been able to provide equivalent significant benefits for the condition with a particular pain relief drug.

A clinical trial called MOVES was conducted, and it included 606 individuals who suffered from moderate-to-severe pain. The study lasted for 6 months and the participants were instructed to take dietary supplements. It was found that the participants were able to experience 50.1% reduction in pain.

Marc C. Hochberg, M.D., from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, reported that participants who took a pain relief drug experienced 50.2% pain reduction while those who were given glucosamine and chondroitin experienced 50.1%. The pain was measured on the Western Ontario and McMaster osteoarthritis index (WOMAC).

MOVES is considered to be the third major clinical trial that showed a benefit of the use of the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin in osteoarthritis.

The New England Journal of Medicine published a multicenter study called Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT), which was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. The study involved 1,583 individuals with knee osteoarthritis, which were divided into a placebo and glucosamine group. This study was conducted in 2006, and was considered to be the first that showed the efficacy of both ingredients for osteoarthritis pain.

The good news is that there are supplements available nowadays that contain both glucosamine and chondroitin. There are even supplements that do not only contain glucosamine and chondroitin but also other ingredients such as MSM and turmeric (amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
