International: After a long trip to Kuala Lumpur where he led “Singing Sinatra” workshops and helped local Malaysian people to enjoy the wonders of jazz music, globally recognisable singing sensation David Tughan has today announced his intention to return in May and perform at the KL International Jazz Festival which will be held at the University of Malaya. During this performance, he will be joined on stage by some of the most respected and revered talent within the jazz world, including Kirk Lightsey on piano.

Other musicians performing with David on this occasion will be Stephen Magnusson, Ben Robertson and Danny Farrugia. The show itself is called Chetting: A Tribute to the music of Chet Baker, so attendees can expect to hear all their favourite compositions with a number of surprises just to mix things up a little (this is jazz after all).

Born and raised in Northern Ireland during a turbulent political climate, David Tughan found his love of singing helped him to focus on the positive, even when the community around him was facing some dark times. After moving to London in 1994, he secured a place at the The Guildhall School of Music and Drama where his craft was perfected, and his showmanship began to shine through. David’s performances in jazz clubs began in earnest just after the year 2000, and this led onto the recording of his first album entitled “Just In Time”.

Thanks to a dedicated audience and a growing fan base, Tughan was soon offered headline spots at some of the UK’s most trendy and influential venues including; Ronnie Scotts, The Soho Theatre, The Dorchester, The Royal Garden Hotel and many more. These performances helped to cement him on the scene, and also attracted much attention from experienced jazz musicians and singers who were more than impressed with his abilities. After a couple of years hard slog on the circuit, David managed to score an interview on BBC Radio Two, and also received air time from The Jonathan Ross Show amongst many others.
