One of the most comprehensive vision health studies conducted by the UK’s most trusted eye healthcare group, Optegra, has revealed some worrying findings on the state of the nations eye health. The Vision of Britain report has been making the news in the national press including The Sun and The Mirror as well as being broadcast on over ten radio stations including the BBC. The report is the result of a study examining 2,000 people and has been prepared by the Optegra Eye Sciences department in association with Boots Opticians.

Discussing the Vision of Britain report live on radio, experienced GP Dr Sarah Jarvis revealed her concern at some of the revelations within Vision of Britain 2017. On BBC Jersey Radio, Dr Jarvis explained to listeners the plethora of eye health problems faced by the nation. “25% of British adults go to the dentist more regularly than their optician — one in two people who goes to the optician for the first time ever turns out to need some form of vision correction”.

Dr Jarvis was among the professionals contributing to the 20 page report, in a section titled “The GP’s Perspective” where she elaborates on the eye health trends she has witnessed in patients over the past 25 years of practice. She also discusses the importance of regular eye tests and their importance in combating glaucoma and cataracts. Dr Jarvis also reveals certain red flag symptoms which we all should be aware of, that could signify serious eye health problems, along with valuable tips to protect eye sight.
