Orlando, FL – April 6, 2015 – There are many treatment options available for individuals who want to experience relief from osteoarthritis pain. However, medications such as NSAIDs are often avoided, as they are highly associated with the occurrence of side effects. Now, new developments in anti-inflammatory medications may provide a solution with little side effects.

The FDA has now approved a new low-dose NSAID for osteoarthritis pain. A medication known as Zorvolex, which is only available by prescription, is a low-dose, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has been approved to help adult arthritis patients who are suffering from mild to moderate acute pain.

“The medication was designed to address the increasing concerns about the potential life-threatening side effects of NSAIDs. Among the known side effects are gastrointestinal and cardiovascular problems such as GI bleeding, stroke, GI perforation, GI ulceration and heart attack,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, it is best that patients use the lowest dose of NSAID for the shortest duration possible to achieve treatment goals. Lower doses are thought to be effective because the medication has particles that promote better absorption.

Roy Altman, MD and University of California’s professor of medicine, has stated that the effectiveness of the medication has been exactly the same. The news is exciting for consumers, as they can obtain the same results in smaller doses. Dr. Altman is a professor of medicine at the University’s Division of Rheumatology and Immunology and has been a paid lecturer for many years. He added that theoretically, the medication has reduced side effects mainly because it comes in a smaller dose.

“While in theory it can give rise to fewer side effects, the FDA has also stressed that there has not been any study that showed Zorvolex has reduced side effects. This is why, even now, the FDA still require that all NSAIDs carry warnings, including Zorvolex,” added O’Sullivan.

With the potential risk for side effects still remaining, many arthritis sufferers are hesitant to use any form of NSAIDs unless completely necessary. As such, there are a growing number of consumers who prefer to use natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. Curcumin is an active ingredient of turmeric that has been popularized by its potential benefits, including anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Many arthritis sufferers who have used curcumin claim that they have experienced significant pain relief without suffering from side effects (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
