16, December 2014: Val Thorens, in the French Alps, has been voted the best ski resort in the world for the second year in a row. When deciding where to go skiing in the Alps, tourists have a huge range of options, but now the decision may be made a bit easier knowing that one of the resorts in the region has twice been recognised as the best in the world.

The award was announced at the World Ski Awards, which was held for the second year in a row at the A-ROSA Kitzbühel. Hundreds of representatives from the ski industry were invited to the prestigious event to see the awards handed out.

Val Thorens was recognised for being the best ski resort for a range of factors. It is the highest in Europe and it also has the biggest ski area in the world, making it consistently popular with people planning a holiday skiing in the Alps. It has hundreds of kilometres of runs – nearly all of which are over 2,000 metres high – and it is also a particularly beautiful resort offering stunning views.

There were many other prizes handed out at the prestigious awards. The best ski hotel award went to Stein Eriksen Lodge in the USA, and the best ski hotel went to InterContinental Davos in Switzerland. There were also prizes for the best boutique hotel, the best chalet, the best ski resort company, and outstanding contribution to ski tourism.

Val Thorens has recently opened for the season, which will last from the end of November to the beginning of May. This year it has seen millions of euros invested in improving the slopes and lifts, and the highest zip-wire on the continent was also constructed, all of which make it a tempting option for anyone considering going skiing in the Alps.
