The Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) eighth annual open day event will be held this year on Friday June 13th at their London campus on Great Russell Street. Lovers of fine jewellery and diamond engagement rings will have the opportunity to attend free gemstone seminars and interactive demonstrations.

This unique and rare event tells the story behind the rise to success of some of the world’s top jewellery designers, manufacturers and retailers. Although this is a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts to gain general knowledge it also offers lots of useful information for couples learning about buying diamond engagement rings.

Edward Johnson, director of GIA in London said that; “As a global public benefit organisation and a U.K. Registered Charity, GIA is committed to educating the gem and jewellery-buying public.” Mr. Johnson also commented that, “Everyone with a passion for gems and jewellery is encouraged to stop by our Open Day to expand their gem knowledge, learn about education programmes and find out how many successful professionals began their careers.”

The open day’s comprehensive schedule will include demonstrations of GIA’s eLearning education programmes complemented by presentations on gemmology, emeralds, rubies, sapphires and pearls. For those shopping for diamond engagement rings there will be a presentation on diamond quality factors as well.

The GIA is considered globally to be a world leader in gem education and is responsible for the evaluation and grading of many world famous diamonds such as the Hope Diamond, the Taylor-Burton and the Steinmetz Pink. Many diamonds seen at auction today, as well as the one’s recommended to couples shopping for diamond engagement rings, have been appraised by this highly regarded organisation.

The GIA’s Open Day commences on Friday June 13th at noon and runs till 6pm. Anyone with an interest in jewellery or gems is welcome to attend.
