Berlin; 19, March 2015: The world’s largest tourism trade fair, ITB Berlin started in Berlin from March 4th and will last until March 7th. The trade show hosts travel professionals from over 180 countries, 10,000 exhibitors and 20,000 convention visitors. Jetbay’s COO, James Tan, spoke at the event regarding the inbound tourism market in China, representing the world’s largest travel research and booking platform for China. 

Companies represented at the trade fair include hotels, tourist boards, tour operators, system providers, airlines and car rental companies. The trade show was thematically organized into: Book World, Business Travel Days, Cruises, Culture Tourism, Economy Accommodation, eTravel World, Adventure & Responsible Tourism, ITB Mobile Travel Services, Travel Technology etc. 

James mentioned that while the majority of the attention is focused on the Chinese outbound market, Chinese inbound traveling is an unique untapped market with over 128 million annual visitors and $48 billion dollars in spending. This is the first time these figures, calculated by the China National Tourism Board, are being publicly released in Germany. 

James commented that the Chinese inbound market is extremely local. Service delivery by local partners creates marketing and operational complexities that may prove to be difficult to navigate. Over 50 exhibitors from 19 countries gathered at the eTravel World of ITB Berlin alone.
