Sydney, New South Wales, Australia - Ben Rich has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for ‘The Mysteries of Cow Island’, an adventure game that harkens back to the fabled LucasArts adventure game series of the 1980s and 90s. The Kickstarter campaign aims to garner widespread support and financial backing to complete development of the game and it’s marketing - and distribute to a mass audience.

Critically acclaimed titles such as Maniac Mansion (later Day of the Tentacle), Sam & Max, Monkey Island, and Full Throttle were widely popular, and generated a loyal gaming following. Unfortunately for that dedicated fan base, the company ceased further development of its adventure games by 2005, choosing to funnel its money exclusively into Star Wars game titles.

“The great LucasArts games of the 80's and 90's make some fond childhood memories for the class of 2001 - and losing them after 2005 has left a large hole,” said project creator and game developer Ben Rich. “We plan to fill this gap with a genuine retelling of 80s/90's computing, with 1024x768 resolution, hand drawn and animated backgrounds and characters, voice-overs, and the same music and style of gameplay.”

The Mysteries of Cow Island is being developed using Adventure Game Studio (ASG), a free editor with no license fees, regular updates, and one perfectly equipped to develop a 1990s style adventure game. Programmer (Ben Rich), animator (Rokki Maru), graphic designer (Michal Bukowy), and the voice and music men (Michael Pierce and Alistair aka SilverPear) have already begun production on the game.

In connection with the Kickstarter funding, the team plans to add additional voices, as well as a tester when the game has been completed. “We have worked out an accurate budget, accounting for backgrounds, animation and programming. Our tools are chosen - we have started development on the little money we have available and are hoping that [Kickstarter] can help with the rest,” says Ben.

The team is also in the process of negotiating with selected voice actors for their characters -- Matt Berry from The IT Crowd; ProZD aka SungWon Cho; and game v/o artist Ashley Burch, from Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin?

Supporting a project on Kickstarter gives you an inside look at the creative process, and help that project come to life. All ‘Backers’ of The Mysteries of Cow Kickstarter campaign who pledge funds toward the company’s $15,000 funding goal will receive ‘Rewards’. Backers who pledge between AU $5- AU $25 (about USD $4-$19) or more will receive various downloadable versions of the game.

The game will be distributed on Steam and GoG (GoodOldGames.com), when it’s done. Regular demos of the game will be available from Kickstarter — for those willing to pay.

The Kickstarter campaign is officially open until April 14, 2017. For more information about the Kickstarter campaign, visit: http://kck.st/2kkP5E4
