The jewels Kate Middleton wore during her recent tour through New Zealand alongside Prince William were recently reported to have been provided by a local duo of bespoke jewellery designers.

The opportunity came about after the Kiwi duo e-mailed Buckingham Palace, offering their services as jewellery designers. The Duchess of Cambridge subsequently replied with an order for four bespoke jewellery pieces, which she was sent free of charge by the New Zealander designing duo.

The jewels, subsequently worn by the future Queen of England during her visit to the Oceanic nation, consisted of two items from the studio’s bespoke line — a matching necklace and earrings set in 18-carat white gold — and two from the line dubbed ‘Pretty’, inspired by the Victorian era — both sets of gold and silver bow earrings, one pair inlaid with topaz and the other with citrine. The latter are valued at roughly NZ$695 (£360) while the bespoke jewellery items are valued on request. Reportedly, this selection is significantly different from the one the designers themselves had suggested in their initial e-mail, although no less visually appealing.

The association with the Duchess of Cambridge has predictably caused the demand for items from this particular designing duo to skyrocket. Since making the Duchess’s request public, the two New Zealand women have been flooded with requests from customers seeking to replicate the glitz and glamour displayed by Kate during her tour ‘down under’.

The same duo of designers who provided the items for Catherine’s three-week tour of Oceania had previously lent their services to celebrities taking part in the 2013 BAFTAs (British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards) as well as the Academy Awards. Still, they considered this the prime opportunity to give their designs added public exposure.

The designers in question own two stores in New Zealand, and focus on engagement rings and bespoke jewellery. They also offer repairs and evaluations.
