06 February, 2014: Hiring chalets in Morzine for a weekend ski escapade was one of the options considered by leading British newspaper the Telegraph, in a recent online feature about the best places for weekend skiing.

According to the feature, the resort in question is ideal for Britons seeking a short, weekend-length ski tour due to its proximity to towns and facilities, its easy links to other resorts in the area – namely those making up the Portes du Soleil area — its decent snow cover, and its variety of slopes, many of which are accessible even to beginners.

The feature goes on to recommend that guests wishing to rent chalets in Morzine for a weekend or a short stay opt for accommodation in Morzine or nearby Les Gets, which sits about an hour away from the resort proper. According to the writer of the piece, both offer good bases from which to explore the slopes, with Les Gets offering the more ‘urban’ experience — with nightspots and plenty of eateries and places to stay — and Morzine offering a quieter, quainter atmosphere, with less crowds and easier access to the slopes. In terms of companies offering their services in this area of the Alps, Ski Morzine does get a mention, alongside other companies of its kind.

In what concerns the remaining resorts on the list, it comes as no surprise to realise that Morzine is far from the only representative of the French and Swiss Alps. More than half of the Telegraph’s list is taken up by spots from those two countries, with France contributing Chamonix (a neighbour resort to Morzine), Montgenévre and La Clusaz/Le Grand Bornand; Switzerland, on the other hand, enters Laax, Verbier and Engelberg into the newspaper’s selection. The Italian resorts of Courbayeur and Madesimo, as well as Kitzbuhel in Austria, round up the British newspaper’s list of spots to visit for a weekend of skiing.
