HONG KONG ““ Oct. 3, 2012. Kearny Alliance scholars studying at Hong Kong Baptist University will help create more jobs for poor and disabled Cambodian workers by selling handmade products at the Hong Kong Parkview Bazaar, Oct. 7, podium level, 88 Tai Tam Reservoir Road, Hong Kong.

Products available to include silk Christmas ornaments ranging from trees and balls to stars and birds, and silk and recycled iPhone / iPad cases, plus eco-friendly wine bottle holders. 100% of profits go back into the program to help create even more jobs through export sales.

“I volunteer for this project as I hope that we can keep those needy, hardworking Cambodian producers employed by creating demand and sales here in Hong Kong,“ said Celeste Tsang. Tsang is a Kearny Alliance scholar studying for her Bachelor of Business Administration at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The manager of the Export Assistance Program Cambodia, Sokneang Chhour, said: “This project is a win-win-win strategy: People in Hong Kong not only get great unique products, but by buying these gifts, they also create jobs for people in need – and afford the scholars real-world sales and marketing experience.“ Chhour is a Kearny Alliance scholar and HKBU alumni who returned to her home country after graduation to create livelihood for workers through export sales.

About The Kearny Alliance

At the Kearny Alliance (http://www.kearnyalliance.org), we believe sustainable global trade promotes peace.

We partner with other organizations to further our mission of promoting sustainable global trade, to advance international development and poverty alleviation through trade-related applied research, education and training, and business.

Key programmatic areas include:

* Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  International trade policy research: We believe that the health of the global economy and peace between nations depend on countries having productive trade relationships, which requires open, fact-based dialogues. We initiate research, elicit opinions and disseminate information about global trade to encourage objective debate and balanced policy making in support of open, free, transparent and fair global trade. One key initiative is www.ChinaGlobalTrade.Com.

* Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Trade-related education & skills development: We sponsor educational opportunities for individuals who show a commitment to participating in or promoting innovative and competitive global trade. The Kearny Alliance offers stipend support for students from Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Lao and mainland China to study in Hong Kong, Thailand, The Philippines and the US. We give our scholars internships and on-the-job training in export-related companies and organizations in ten countries.

Export-led job creation: We offer practical trade services to promote and coach producers on how to participate in global trade. Through the Developing Country Export Assistance Program (http://kearnyalliance.org/sourcingreports), the Kearny Alliance connects smaller exporters in developing Asia with buyers worldwide. Surveys of our supplier-beneficiaries in India, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia show they have received $829,792 in export orders, and expect $8,011,169 to develop in the next 12 months.
