With the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day, Runtopia released its St. Patrick’s Day Online Race, which received the participation of thousands of running enthusiasts. At the same time, Runtopia’s third round of Big Run received fierce competition from the opposing teams. This time, all participants were divided into two teams: Team Chicago and Team San Diego, each having a total of 48 hours to determine which team would be the winner in March.

Maybe you are still confused with what “The Online Race” or “Big Run” is. Is it an interesting online game? Of course not. Let’s take a closer look at the popular “Online Races” of Runtopia.

What is the Online Race?

“The Online Race” is a virtual concept that evolved from real-life races like marathons. It is an original event created by Runtopia and devoted into operations.

As marathons have become increasingly popular in the recent years, races have started to receive more and more interest. However, due to restrictions such as location and quota, many running enthusiasts have been prevented in participating.

Thus, “The Online Race” aims to solve the limitations of space and quota for more running friends. It provides more opportunities for participation, through uploading running records to win medals.

Do you still remember when British astronaut Tim Peake “participated” in the London Marathon on April 24th, 2016? Yes, he ran remotely in a unique way in the International Space Station and finished the marathon in 3 hours 35 minutes and 21 seconds. Tim said it was not only for celebrating every participant in the London Marathon, but also necessary for him to keep up his endurance exercise on the treadmill in the International Space Station.

Science and technology have emancipated us from mundane lives, enabling people to be more involved in sports & running. According to Runtopia Project Founder, James Si: “We wanted to create a unique Running App for people around the world from the get-go, and make running more interesting through a new mechanism of online to offline interaction, especially since enthusiasm & attitudes for running are much higher than before. We will keep on updating our product to meet our users’ demands.”

Actually, the rising popularity of Online Race on Runtopia has reflected peoples' desires and demands for running, not just because of a race game. Although unable to replace the offline marathon completely, there are still many people wanting to personally participate in the scene and acquire happiness. Online races give people more motivation to run, especially for novice runners.

“Because of these interesting online races, I have set out to prepare for running a half-marathon already, and I really appreciate Runtopia for motivating me to do it,” states a Runtopia user.

This is something that Runtopia has originally sought out to do; motivate and encourage our runners.
