Orlando, FL— January, 2016 — Athletes engage in strenuous activities on a regular basis, and this makes them more susceptible to a range of conditions and injuries. Female athletes, for instance, are for some reason prone to accidents and this is why they need to practice measures to protect their knees.

Study points in the prevention of knee injuries among female athletes are finally revealed. These study points are based on the research conducted by experts to help female athletes prevent injuries. There are natural supplements such as glucosamine that are believed to help protect joint cartilage health.

“Glucosamine is one of the most popular natural remedies for arthritis nowadays. However, more and more athletes are also relying on it,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

In a study, the researchers reveal that an exercise program has helped reduce the risk of knee injuries by 77 percent. The program was designed to teach girls to practice landing correctly when running, playing, and jumping on the soccer field.

The results of the study is promising considering that female athletes are believed to be 8 times more at risk of suffering from the tearing of a band tissue or anterior cruciate ligament in the knees than men. Injuries are known to destabilize the knee, which eventually results in the development of osteoarthritis (OA) later in life.

In another study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine and conducted by Swedish researchers, the participants were 1,506 girls between ages 13 to 19.  The girls were divided into two groups. The first were made to undergo HarmoKnee, which is a physical exercise program designed for athletic individuals. It is a combination of an exercise program and the education of their coaches and parents regarding injury risk.

Liisa Byberg, PhD, lead author of the study from the Department of Surgical Sciences, reveals that the program was composed of various warm-up exercises, including jogging and high-knee skipping, It also included balanced training with jumping exercises, core and strength stability, and muscle activation.

It was found that only three participants from the group who engaged in the exercise program suffered from knee injuries. On the other hand, 13 girls from the control group experienced the injury. According to Dr. Byberg, the findings reveal how well injuries could be prevented by using certain measures. The researchers further revealed that the injuries were less severe among those in the intervention group than the control group.

In addition to having the right exercise regimen, some experts also recommend the use of glucosamine supplements. Most of the best glucosamine supplements in the market contain other natural ingredients such as MSM, chondroitin, and turmeric (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
