Orlando, FL — April 7, 2015 — Modern technology has made it possible for people of all ages to take photos, anytime and anywhere. Health professionals now say this may be to the benefit of physical health. It seems that photographs can play an important role in the lives of many people who are suffering from medical conditions.

A study has revealed that photos of loved ones may potentially decrease pain. According to the study, photographs are simple reminders of loved ones and of positive feelings of being cared for. These powerful feelings have been suggested to possibly help reduce pain.

“The findings are similar to previous studies, which show that having pets or people around while one is in pain can make the discomfort seem bearable. However, researchers have not yet validated how little or much it takes to obtain this effect,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

The University of California’s scientists conducted an experiment involving 28 women who had been engaged in relationships for half a year. The study, recently published in Psychological Science, applied pain in the form of heat on the forearms of participants, in a variety of different circumstances.

Situations included holding the hand of their partner who was sitting behind a curtain, holding the hand of a stranger sitting behind a curtain, holding a squeeze ball, viewing a photo of their partner, viewing a photo of a male stranger, and viewing the letter x, which was meant to be a neutral image.

The women were then asked to rate the pain level they felt. It was found that those who viewed the picture of their significant other experienced the highest level of pain reduction compared to others in the group. Naomi Eisenberger, PhD, UCLA’s assistant professor and the senior researcher of the project, was impressed that even if the participants were not interacting with their significant others, they still experienced pain reduction.

“There were also researchers who suggested that showing photos of loved ones to individuals undergoing painful procedures could be beneficial, especially if their significant other couldn’t be there in person,” added O’Sullivan.

Pain is one of the most undesirable consequences of having arthritis. This is why many sufferers are using pharmaceutical drugs just to achieve pain relief. There are also those who use a combination of drugs and natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. Curcumin is an active ingredient of turmeric and is believed to be effective in reducing pain without causing side effects (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
