Orlando, FL — June 3, 2015 — Swelling, pain and extreme tenderness in the joint — these are among the symptoms experienced by gout sufferers. Gout is often believed to be caused by intake of certain foods such as poultry, seafood and meat. However, it seems that there is another factor associated with the development of the condition.

The Arthritis Foundation has presented a study that showed gout risk has a genetic component. This new, large-scale study, which was published in the journal Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, showed that gout could run in families. Gender differences were also found in the risk for gout from the impact of environmental and genetic factors.

Chang-Fu Kuo, a PhD candidate at the University of Nottingham, explained that in men and women, the composition of risk may be different. However, he also added that both genders are similarly susceptible to the condition if they have a family history of the disease.

“Genes are considered to be part of the risk, but the environmental factors, such as eating habits, shared by families shared much more,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, gout is an inflammatory form of arthritis that takes place when there is hyperuricemia, or high levels of uric acid in the blood. When the needle-like urate crystals accumulate around the joints, it results in hyperuricemia. There are symptoms that take place during gout attacks, such as severe pain in the joint of the big toe, knee, ankle, elbow, wrist and hand.

A study conducted by Dr. Kuo in Taiwan analyzed the highest estimated gout rates in the world. It was found that there were approximately 1 million cases of physician-diagnosed gout out of 22 million residents. Researchers also found that women and men who had a first-degree relative, such as an offspring or parent, that has gout were also twice as susceptible to the condition compared to the general population.

“It was also found that having a twin that suffers from gout increased a person’s risk eight times more,” added O’Sullivan.

There are remedies believed to be effective to use to achieve relief from the symptoms that take place during gout attacks. However, experts suggest that individuals who have relatives with gout should ensure that they see their healthcare professional. Doing this will help them get the right medical advice and prevention techniques.

Prevention has always been considered to be better than a cure. As a matter of fact, many individuals who want to improve their joint health and reduce their risk for arthritis resort to natural alternatives such as glucosamine supplements (www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
