Orlando, FL — April 29, 2015 — Natural alternatives, such as supplements, are very popular nowadays. They are believed to be safer and more effective alternatives to drugs. However, not all supplements available on the market are worth trying.

The Arthritis Foundation has provided some details about the nine supplements to avoid. Although there many supplements that are safe to use, there are those that should be used carefully or not be taken at all.

“It is important to remember that there are many herbal companies that are engaged in fraudulent activities. It is wise to learn about what supplements to avoid. Doing this can help consumers find the best products and avoid ones that are detrimental to their health,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

There are nine supplements to avoid and they are: arnica, aconite, adrenal, autumn crocus, 5-HTP, GBL, L-tryptophan, chaparral and kombucha tea. According to the Arthritis Foundation’s website, these supplements should be avoided and not be taken by patients. These products are generally believed to be anti-inflammatory and helpful to arthritis patients.

Arnica Montana is believed to be anti-inflammatory, immune enhancing and able to relieve aches. However, it becomes toxic once inside the body. It is poisonous if taken orally unless it is extremely diluted. This supplement can cause allergic reactions, miscarriages, heart palpitations, paralysis and death.

A supplement known as aconite is used to ease joint inflammation in Rheumatoid Arthritis patients. However, it should be avoided mainly because it is a fast-acting, strong poison that affects the central nervous system and heart. The 5-HTP or 5-hydroxytrytophan, on the other hand, is known to help with fibromyalgia, depression and sleep disorders. The bad news is that its use is associated with the development of a serious condition that causes severe acute pain and rashes known as esosinophilia.

There are many other supplements that are known to be dangerous. Arthritis patients should always remember that these products can potentially place them in a life-threatening situation. There are even those that contain raw animal organs, such as thymus extracts, that are known to be anti-inflammatory but are also contaminated.

There are supplements to avoid, but there are also those that are highly recommended such as curcumin supplements. Curcumin is the key ingredient of a medicinal spice known as turmeric. It has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Many arthritis sufferers are using this natural alternative. According to these patients, they have experienced significant pain relief after taking the supplement. There are also those who testified that the natural alternative has helped them improve their mobility (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/product-reviews/B00JA4TLTI).
