Mass-distributed UK tabloid The Mirror has recently published a travel report on their website highlighting the Sorrento region of Italy – a piece which may prove useful for guests renting Amalfi villas or accommodation elsewhere in the region.

Penned by one of the newspaper’s travel writers, this piece gives a first-person account of a holiday in that region of Italy, and all the surprises — in the author’s own words, ‘twists and turns’ — it yielded.

For the author of this feature, Sorrento began to impress by being pleasing on the eyes. Tucked under a cliff dotted with private homes and Amalfi villas for holiday rentals, the town struck an immediate impact as the writer approached by water. According to the Mirror staffer, that was the moment when he knew his expectations for the Amalfi coast would not be defrauded.

From there, the piece’s author goes on to describe his experiences exploring Sorrento and the surrounding coast. A large spotlight is placed on food and drink, as the town — and the region as a whole — is said to be a haven for ‘foodies’. The world-renowned local ice-cream is considered a particular delicacy by the feature author, who claims to have had a hard time choosing among the three dozen flavours on offer.

Sorrento is also, according to the writer of the piece, an excellent home base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast. With a wealth of Amalfi villas available to rent seasonally, and plentiful transport links to towns further along the coast, this location is considered by the Mirror staffer to be the ideal place to stay during a holiday in Amalfi.

Some of these towns, such as Positano with its cathedral, or quaint, quiet Ravello, are also mentioned in the article — as is Pompeii, the famous ashen city at the mouth of a volcano.

The Amalfi coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy.
