A new apparel company in Michigan is looking to have a little fun with an old saying. 

“Well, frankly, I was getting a little tired of hearing it… literally everywhere… and I imagine that most guys know what I’m talking about… and everyone says it the same way, ‘Well you know what they say, Happy Wife, Happy Life’ ” says owner Steve Bowen of Charlevoix, Michigan. 

One day a couple months ago, after hearing it for seemingly the 50th time in a week, he decided it was time to do something about it. “I was thinking that we all knew the truth was, if the man isn’t happy, nobody is going to be happy.” 

And so, Happy Man was born. 

His idea was to come up with some fun artwork showing Happy Man doing what makes a happy man happy, along with his trademarked saying, ‘Happy Man, Happy Clan’. And then printing the designs on t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, mugs and water bottles, bumper stickers and window decals. The first batch of designs included what he figured would be the big three of golfing, fishing and hunting, and then, since summer was approaching, he added sailing and speedboating. For the design work “I hired a multiple award winning illustrator and incredibly talented former Disney artist named Dee DeLoy. The designs that he has done just amaze me.” 

Design ideas for the next generation of shirts are already pouring in. “I already have requests for Happy Man on a motorcycle, 4-wheeling, hiking, camping or sitting by a campfire, grilling, and even with a beer sitting in a la-z-boy watching a football game.” 

Currently the art is available on t-shirts and coffee mugs. Other items will be available in the near future. 

“My goal is to one day walk into a store with my wife, and have the sales person say to us ‘Well you know what they say, Happy Man, Happy Clan’.” 

“It’s just been a lot of fun… the saying is fun, the art is fun, and I just hope people can have some fun with it.”
