November 28, 2016 — San Francisco — CarVi, a smart car technology startup from California, has introduced its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — a connected vehicle device to improve safety, cost efficiency, and effectiveness of transportation companies’ operations.

CarVi combines a single lens forward-facing dashboard camera to add digital “eyes on the road“ and state-of-the-art analytics. Its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) not only collect speed and time data, but also synchronize it with the situation on the road. Plus, the device incorporates the scoring system and an intuitive coaching mode.

CarVi can be installed in any car in a matter of minutes, and  the software is capable of monitoring the performance of a single driver or an entire fleet.

Transportation companies will benefit from using CarVi through lower maintenance and fuel costs, and insurance premiums. The coaching system will lead to a decrease in dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, swerving, sudden acceleration and braking. As a result, there will be less frequent tire replacements, wheel alignments, and vehicle body repairs. CarVi can also track idling time to improve fuel efficiency.

CarVi encourages safe driving behavior which will affect the number of car accidents. If an accident happens, the camera will take videos for an accurate situation assessment for insurance companies. According to the Department of  Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s data, 60 to70 percent of all crashes involving heavy vehicles are not the truck's fault. But carriers pay millions of dollars in claims every year because they can’t prove the driver’s innocence. By using CarVi’s videos captured during the accidents, the companies will be able to dismiss false allegations.

Commercial truck companies have to comply with the Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. CarVi will monitor the time behind the wheel and alert about necessary breaks. Also, it will increase safety for drivers on long-distance routes where chances of abnormal behavior increase. Because CarVi understands context, it will be able to detect unusual driving and provide forward collision or lane departure warnings as well as real-time coaching.
“Technological innovations open tremendous opportunities. They can improve the safety on the roads for each one of us. They can also transform the ways companies run the business. Those who embrace the challenge and actively look for solutions to become more efficient will lead the industry into the future. And we at CarVi see ourselves as a part of the solution,” Said Kevin Lee, founder of CarVi.

Bid data and telematics are reshaping the commercial trucking industry. The transportation companies use fleet telematics to collect real-time information about the geographical location of their vehicles, usage efficiency, and gain insight into drivers behavior. The technology allows them to optimize the routes, lower operational expenses, increase productivity, and improve safety on the roads. CarVi’s ADAS represent a cost-efficient tool for advanced fleet management.
