Orlando, FL— June 25, 2015 — Osteoarthritis has been known to cause pain and discomfort among patients. As a matter of fact, many of them succumb to depression and suffer from the consequences of having many physical limitations. However, it seems that there is more harm to having the condition.

Research suggests that osteoarthritis may potentially increase heart disease risk. This is something that patients should be wary about since having heart disease can actually place them in a life-threatening situation. There are also certain group of patients who are more susceptible to heart disease.

According to a recent Canadian study that was published in the Arthritis Care & Research journal, adult individuals who suffer from knee or hip osteoarthritis may potentially be more susceptible to cardiovascular disease. It was also found that women and older men with osteoarthritis are more likely to become hospitalized than those who do not have arthritis.

“The risk was found to be even greater among those who need joint replacement surgery. However, experts also said that it is impossible to tell whether osteoarthritis is really the cause of the increased risk,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

M. Mushfiqur Rahman, PhD, from the University of British Columbia, stated that albeit rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune types of arthritis are linked to a higher risk of heart disease, there is very little information about its connection with osteoarthritis. He also added that the study was the first prospective longitudinal study of the connection between CVD and OA.

Dr. Rahman and his colleagues believe that adults who suffer from osteoarthritis may be more susceptible to cardiovascular problems because of the risk factors they are more likely to have, such as obesity, inactivity, muscle weakness, chronic inflammation and the use of NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are known to significantly increase heart attack risk. NSAIDs include diclofenac, celecoxib, naproxen and meloxicam.

The use of NSAIDs has long been associated with a variety of side effects, including the development of cardiovascular problems. This is why many people are resorting to natural alternatives such as glucosamine supplements. There are quite a number of natural alternatives available nowadays, and arthritis patients often use glucosamine.

According to experts, patients should use glucosamine supplements that contain other natural ingredients such as chondroitin, MSM and turmeric. They should also ensure that they are getting the supplements from a reputable herbal company. Glucosamine supplements are believed to not just have positive effects on the pain that sufferers endure, but also on their overall health (http://amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/).
