Orlando, FL— June 25, 2015 — Depression is highly prevalent nowadays, and sometimes it leads to undesirable, tragic consequences. People who experience pain due to the medical condition they are suffering from often succumb to depression. Not all diseases are associated with the development of depression, but it seems that arthritic conditions are not one of the exemptions.

Researchers investigated the link between depression and rheumatoid arthritis inflammation. It is believed that those who suffer from RA are two to four times more susceptible to experiencing depression than the general population. This has caught the interest of researchers and led them to come up with interesting questions.

“Rheumatoid arthritis causes body-wide inflammation and researchers wondered whether it directly leads to depression. They also suspect that it is the inflammation that potentially increases disease activity, which also results in depression,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

Mary Margaretten, M.D., University of California San Francisco’s rheumatologist, has stated that traditional factors, such as disability and pain, can cause depression in connection with rheumatoid arthritis. However, inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis can also play a major role in the development of depression. There are also experts who stressed the importance of how some patients usually think of the depression to be the cause of inflammation.

According to the report in the International Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, which was co-authored by Dr. Margaretten, RA patients are prone to cardiovascular disease due to the development of inflammation. Depression, just like cardiovascular disease, is associated with RA inflammation. There have been studies that reported a link between depression and inflammation.

The researchers of the Johns Hopkins University submitted a report in the Archives of Internal Medicine that found major depression in the male population was highly associated with  increased levels of CRP, or C-reactive protein, which is a marker of inflammation. Researchers also added that CRP, as an objective marker of inflammation, was very helpful to study.

In 2009, a study was published in Arthritis & Rheumatism that involved 218 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers analyzed the CRP levels and provided some self-reported questionnaires to the participants. It was found that depression and inflammation increased the chance of the subjects to experience severe pain independently. It was also revealed that when both conditions were experienced together, it also increased the risk of severe pain.

“Experts stated that even if it has not been established what came first, it was apparent that inflammation and depression are associated,” added O’Sullivan.

There are already many remedies for rheumatoid arthritis inflammation and pain. One very popular natural alternative is called curcumin supplements. This natural alternative is believed to have strong anti-inflammatory substances and have the ability to reduce pain and discomfort among arthritis sufferers (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
